Fly on the Wall Press Update: New Titles, Funding Losses, and Stock Clearance Sale
Hello Scribblers,
I hope you're all having a fantastic start to the new year! I wanted to give you all an update on what's been happening here at Fly on the Wall Press.
First of all, we had our first book rep pitching session in London yesterday and it felt like we were on Dragon's Den! It was a nerve-wracking experience but we managed to get a few of the reps interested in our upcoming titles and they also knew many of our authors and seemed excited by regional connections. Fingers crossed for some good news in the near future. We'd love to be on those bookshop display tables, and not just the shelves!
Unfortunately, we didn't have as much luck with our arts council bid. Despite our best efforts, the funding wasn't awarded to us this time around. But, we're taking it in stride and seeing it as an opportunity to prove that we can be successful even without funding. After all, there aren't many full-time publishers in the north - we actually don't know any - without funding, so being unfunded is kind of an achievement in itself. We managed without any funding in 2022 and still increased our revenue by 40%.
On a happier note, we have a stock clearance sale happening right now! We're offering a great deal on three of our older titles. Don't miss out on your chance to snag a bargain! 50% off...
In our latest stock clearance sale, we are excited to offer
in a beautiful Matt Finish. This collection of poetry delves into the raw and honest experiences of postpartum depression, as the author finds the courage to survive and ultimately redeem herself.
Critics have praised Horan's writing for its honesty, vulnerability and complexity. Jack B. Bedell, Poet Laureate of Louisiana, describes the book as "generous" and "necessary" while Jen Rouse, poet and playwright, commends the collection for its ability to destigmatize postpartum depression and mental illness.
This book has been compared to the works of Sylvia Plath, Edgar Allen Poe and Joan Didion, and is a must-read for those who are fans of confessional and emotional poetry. As Christina Strigas, author of Love & Vodka, puts it, "Horan’s poetic voice is a much needed read that keeps you wanting more."
Followed by...
a collection of poetry that explores the human condition and the relationship between human and animal nature. This powerful collection has been praised for its focus on the neglected, the discarded and the diminished, and its ability to reach for transcendence through acceptance. As Mary O'Donnell says "The beauty of this poetry lies in its focus on what is animal, on the neglected mutt barking in a lonely garden, whose solitude mirrors our own. Only a humane animal, the poet implies, is worth our attention. With subject-matter this fresh, and an avoidance of zeitgeist poetry, what really sets the work apart tonally and in subject is its assumption of a counter-position at all times. The result is original writing. No poetic braggadocio here: just great poetry."

Praised by Jackie Kay, Scottish Makar, playwright and author, and Brendan Gisby, Editor and Author, this collection explores themes of HIV/AIDS and societal issues.
